Flavor AND Fiber? Gnu Peanut Butter Bar


When people ask me about my travels, I get the very simple "what do you pack on your trips?" to the slightly personal but recently asked "how do you prevent an upset stomach?" (I will leave the verbiage as clean as possible for those with delicate eyes!).

The truth is that people tend to eat less healthy when traveling. I will admit that my food choices aren't always the best on the road. But one thing you should do when traveling is ensure you are getting enough fiber. I always make sure to keep a couple high fiber foods with me for those days when I just couldn't fit it into my diet elsewhere. When I was given an opportunity to try Gnu Flavor and Fiber bars, I knew these would be reviewed on my next trip!

The Gnu Food Flavor and Fiber bars pack an astounding 12 grams of fiber into every bar! This bar is not for the faint of stomach. If you are not used to consuming large quantities of fiber, you could have stomach pains or discomfort. According to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln IANR web site, you should up your fiber intake gradually and ensure you are getting enough fluids.

Fiber is also great because it helps fill you up. When I was biking along the beach earlier today, I was a bit hungry but knew it would be awhile before I had another full meal. So I broke out the Gnu PB Bar and enjoyed it with a bottle of water. I was full for hours!

Very rarely do I review a product because I love how healthy I feel when I eat it. But with every bite of the Gnu Foods Flavor and Fiber Peanut Butter Bar, I felt myself getting healthier while enjoying a tasty new snack!

Think I'm kidding? Think again! This bar has a unique texture that is a bar with a chewy cookie and crumbly granola feel to it. Every bite, I could taste different components of the bar from the peanut butter to the apples to the wheat bran to the rice. I enjoyed rolling it over my tounge trying to identify each of these flavors. I was excited to figure out what was in the bar without having to read the label. How often do you find a product where you can figure out what ingredients are in there by taste alone?

While the texture is different than most of the bars on the market, I enjoyed the complexity in my mouth. The sweet nutty peanut with the sweet fruit and hearty grains make this one bar that will travel with me again.

Ingredients: Gnu High Fiber Blend™ (whole rolled oats, organic whole wheat flour, wheat bran, organic kamut, psyllium, flax, millet), chicory root inulin, fruit juices, rice dextrins, rice, canola oil, peanuts, apples, plums, natural flavors, wheat protein isolate, salt, baking powder.

Nutritional Information: 140 calories / 5 grams of fat / 12 grams of fiber / 4 grams of protein

I just tried my first Gnu bar. I had the chocolate brownie. I thought it tasted like a z bar.

I'm going on vacation next month and have been keeping an eye out for snacks for the trip and the vacation itself!

I love GNU bars! The raisin flavor is like eating an oatmeal raisin cookie! So good!

I like the point value on this bar. I am tired of gigantic 200+ calorie bars. I just don't want to spend that many points on something that fits in my pocket!

This is the second review I've read on these bars and I am dying to try them. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to spot them yet. Guess I should do it the smart way and look for stores on their website. :)

Oooh, I'll have to keep my eyes out for these bars. Peanut butter is one of my fave flavors, too, in any type of energy bar.
